July 28, 2010: Michael Sulick has announced that he is retiring soon as the Director of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency's (CIA) National Clandestine Service. CIA Director Leon Panetta has appointed John D. Bennett to succeed Sulick. Sulick had previously retired from the CIA in March, 2005, after 25 years with the agency. He had retired as the Associate Deputy Director for Operations. Sulick was also previously the CIA Chief in Russia and Poland. He was also previously a Clandestine Service Operations Officer; Senior CIA Field Representative in Russia and Poland; Director of the Liaison Group at the Office of Congressional Affairs; Chief of the CIA's Central Eurasia Division; and Deputy Chief and Chief of Counterintelligence. Bennett joined the CIA in 1981, and he has had four tours as a Station Chief. He has also worked as the Chief of the Special Activities Division; the Deputy Chief of the Africa Division; and the Deputy Director of the NCS for Community HUMINT.
